Data Privacy Day, Philippines, Jan. 28

On January 28, 2010, Qartas Corporation, in partnership with Sulit.com.ph and the Department of Trade and Industry will sponsor a Data Privacy Day celebration entitled "Building Consumer Confidence: A Data Privacy Day Celebration". Event will run from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at the Batanes meeting room of the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, Philippines. Speakers will discuss data privacy fundamentals, cyber security awareness, an overview on the enabling environment for e-commerce, the APEC Data Privacy framework, and building online trust; a cocktail reception will follow.

Data Privacy Day is an international event that is celebrated on January 28th in the United States, Canada, and 27 European countries in an effort to raise awareness and generate discussion about data privacy and protection. Giants like Intel, Google, Microsoft, and the Privacy Projects have become official sponsors of Data Privacy Day to support the coordination effort for the US and Canada DPD events. In 2008, the House and Senate of the U.S. passed Resolutions recognizing January 28, 2009 as the National Data Privacy Day.
